Ashley and Ryan wanted winter engagement photos in the mountains, and Kananaskis provided the perfect backdrop. Located an hour West of Calgary, nestled in the Rocky Mountains, this location offers the perfect stop for those wanting the mountain views without all the costs that some of the nearby tourist towns require.
It had been some time since I had been out to the mountains this year, so I took the opportunity to go early and explore a few locations. Once our couple showed up, we had some ideas in mind for what we wanted to do. While the weather could not decide what it wanted to do, from sun, to snow, to wind. the Calgary saying of “just wait five minutes and the weather will change’ certainly held true.
We started at Wedge Pond, just a little South of Kananaskis Village. A beautiful little pond at the base of a mountain provided our initial backdrop. We found some spots within the trees as well as along a bit of a ridge to grab some shots of our couple. From there we headed North to Mt Lorette Ponds, about 15 minutes up the road. There are many hidden little spots in this area, each offering a great little backdrop all their own.
We are certainly looking forward to celebrating Ashley and Ryan’s wedding this summer and wish them all the best.
This is also the first session we have photographed with our new camera system. Although it has proven to be a steep learning curve, we are looking forward to all the great features and performance that this camera offers.
